Internet Voice, also known as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls using an Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line. Some services using VoIP Phone System may only allow you to call other people using the same service, but others may allow you to call anyone who has a telephone number – including local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers. Also, while (1) some services only work over your computer or (2) a special VoIP phone system, (3)other services allow you to use a traditional phone throught an adaptor.

A gateway is either hardware or software that acts as a bridge between two networks so that data can be transferred between a number of computers. For example, when you send an e-mail to a friend or when you log in to a Web site, there is a gateway that allows the connection take place. Often, your connection to a Web site will involve many smaller connections to other servers along the way. In these cases, a number of gateways are used.
